Between June 2001 and May 2002 the REA Comet Section received 324 reports from 17 observers (5% more than the last period). We observed 3 comets: C/2001 A2 (LINEAR), C/2000 WM1 (LINEAR) and, recently, Comet C/2002 C1 (Ikeya-Zhang). We also are very happy because one collaborator - Paulo Mansur Raymundo - discovered the comet Ikeya-Zhang! We will remember this comet forever, because it was very beautiful and bright, and it "made history": it probably already visited us, in 877, 1273, 1532 and 1661.
About the Pictures Gallery, we received 68 pictures (including photos, CCD images and sketches). Thank collaborators!
In October 25,2001 the Coordinator showed a minute about "Observations of the Comet C/ 2001 A2" during the 6th EBEA (Brazilian Meeting for Astronomy Education), in Florianopolis (Santa Catarina, Brazil). He compared the comet light curve with the Solar Wolf Number. This subject was also discussed with Prof. Oscar Matsuura (USP) and Nelson Travnik (from Piracicaba Observatory).

For the next period of activities (from June/2002 to May/2003) we have two bright comets: C/2002 C1 (Ikeya-Zhang) and C/2002 F1 (Utsonomiya). We also have some Periodic Comets but not very bright ones.
We are also preparing
to observe the Great Bright Comet in 2004 - C/2001Q4
(NEAT), which may get to magnitude +1.0 in May 2004!
